Vineyards
Our vineyards are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon on well drained, Marr series, sandy loam soils. Like the soils of the right bank of the Dordogne River in Bordeaux, which are famous for producing premium Merlot-dominated red blends, Thanksgiving Farm soils are underlaid by clay and sand.
For soil conservation on the rolling hills of Thanksgiving Farm, we planted our vineyards in herring-bone patterns, with rows running parallel to topographic contours.
The ample summer sunshine and heat of southern Maryland have consistently produced ripe grapes at harvest.
